I have been very eager to produce the work for my final project. While creating an outline I noticed how emotional I am about the pandemic. My family is struggling financially because unemployment was unprepared for the amount of people that would be filing. It seems like America was extremely unprepared. Not only are citizens struggling, but immigrants are struggling more than ever, especially because they aren’t receiving any money from the government.
I plan on beginning my journal entries from the moment I heard of the Coronavirus and people, even one of my professors jokes about it coming from beer. How stupid of us. Before Spring break one of my professors had said that they don’t believe it will affect the rest of the semester. Little did we know everything would change for us as students. These two small experiences alone have shown me how naive Americans can be. Did we really think we were untouchable. Without shutting down beaches, parks, airports and other public spaces, how did we plan on avoiding the contraction of this deadly virus. Did we think we were immune? If so, why? This pandemic is driving me crazy, and I am seriously concerned about the behavior of many American citizens. Hopefully, through my journal I can explore what it truly means to be an American.
